GCSE Sample Papers

When ordering student workbooks, please specify which exam board you require.

Teachers` Packs contain the worksheets, CD tracks and mark schemes for all three boards.

Although each board uses different Areas of Study, the actual aural skills required are very similar. It is certainly possible to use selected exercises from the `other` exam boards to good effect.

This applies even to EDEXCEL candidates, despite the use of specified set works . . . it surely can`t be feasible  to expect students to memorise every cadence in (say) the Mozart No 40 . . . candidates will need the skills to be able recognise cadences aurally.

There are twenty-four sets of questions for each exam board, based on the new specifications and presented in the formats used by the boards in their specimen papers. The questions are mainly straightforward and would be suitable for use with year 10 pupils.

The Index page from the AQA section (please scroll down for EDEXCEL and OCR). All five Areas of Study are covered and all questions are related to one of the three `strands`.

A sample `Rhythm and Metre` exercise . . . the format of the questions is based on the AQA Specimen Paper.

More than a third of the questions are, like this example, based on the AQA `Suggested Listening` lists.

A full mark scheme is provided in the Teachers` Pack.

The Index page from the EDEXCEL section. Please note that it has not been possible to secure copyright permissions for all tracks. You will need to use your own copies of Capercaillie, Moby, Buckley and Koko. Exact track timings for these questions are included in the Teachers` Pack. (Note that Section B questions do not require CD tracks.)

(By the way, if you are having problems getting hold of the Koko track, you might like to try this link: www.virginmega.fr/musique/titre/madou-kone-et-le-groupe-koko-yiri-101880469,page1.htm )

A sample SECTION A exercise . . . the format of the questions is based on the EDEXCEL Specimen Paper.

A sample SECTION B exercise. In this publication - aimed primarily at year 10 - these questions are set out in a multiple choice format. In future publications, these questions will be more `open`.

A full mark scheme is provided in the Teachers` Pack. This page also shows track timings for the exercises on pages 14,16 and 17.

The Index page from the OCR section. All three relevant Areas of Study (2, 3 and 4) are covered and all questions are related to the genres specified in the new syllabus.
