Part A: Listening

Questions and skeleton scores based on the format of the Edexcel specimen paper. These cover all the Anthology pieces set for the years 2011 - 2013. There are two sets of questions plus skeleton scores for each piece. Exact timing details of the extracts needed for each question are given in the Teacher Pack, using the CD set compiled by Edexcel. The Teacher Pack also contains full mark schemes for these questions.

(Please note that questions for those pieces which have already been set for the years 2009 / 2010 and which have already been covered in our first Unit 3 publication are not printed again here. Please re-use the questions from our 2009 / 2010 publication . . . see below.)

Part B: Investigating Musical Styles

Essay questions based on the format of the Edexcel specimen paper. These cover all the Anthology pieces set for the years 2011 - 2013. There are two sets of questions for each piece.

Part C: Understanding Chords and Lines

Questions and skeleton scores based on the format of the Edexcel specimen paper - ten sets of questions. Full mark schemes for these questions are given in the Teacher Pack.

PLUS (on CD) a graded series of ten SATB harmony exercises which are provided in Sibelius 4 and MIDI format (so that students can hear as well as see the results of their work). These cover cadences, chord progressions, suspensions etc. (NB: these are based on, but not identical to, our `Edexcel Composing Techniques` AS Chorale files released in 2007.)

Also, we have included on the CD ALL the Sibelius, MIDI and .pdf files from our 2006 `Edexcel AS Composing Techniques` CDROM which provide graded exercises for chorale harmony, figured bass, pop + jazz bass lines etc. These are intended to provide material for some initial tuition in the AS year, in preparation for the A2 Composing Techniques (Technical Study) exercises which are no longer examined at AS level.

Altogether, there is enough material in this publication for ten complete practice papers for EACH of the first two years (2009 / 2010)

In these 2008 publications, we have re-used SOME relevant CD tracks from our existing publications, but the questions have been re-written and are always presented in the formats used by the exam boards in their new specimen papers.
